Dubboy2707 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Hi to all this is my first post on here I had a puncture on Sunday and got my spare off all ok but then the carrier failed going up. I have taken it to bits and the wheel cog has smashed to bits so it is dead. I was looking at how it sits on the wheel etc. the bolt which you turn in the car is off centre to the middle of the wheel but when you line it up agains the wheel with the cable exit in the middle of the wheel the bolt/nut that is in the car is in line with the wheel bolt. This then gave me an idea. What if I make at threaded bar long enough to go through the original hole in the floor through the wheel to a metal plate the same size as the wheel outer edge with a welded nut to thread to. Ok it wouldn't be the easiest thing to remove but if the jack could be used to aid this while undoing the threaded part it could be a winner. PLUS here is the major bonus it will save me Quote

Dubboy2707 Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 The part that has broken on mine is the main fog on the centre shaft. I can't sea to find any repair for this part. My unit had bolts already in place so think there has been a previous problem there. Have had a look on eBay but think to myself am I going to buy another problem Quote
SilverBeast Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Mine failed in the same way the week after I got it. Split nylon cog, that engages in the worm gear. I replaced it with one from ebay off a MKI that is all metal. The mountings and apertures are all the same so it's a straight swap. Just hammerited and greased it. Quote
Dubboy2707 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Report Posted January 30, 2014 So the mk1 is the same as a mk2 ???? If so then I can have one for Quote
